Each year, thousands of aspiring franchisees come together at the International Franchise Expo (IFE) in New York City to meet with industry leaders and learn about the endless possibilities of owning a franchise (or multiple franchises). I will join these prospective franchisees May 31 through June 2 at IFE and am looking forward to what’s in store.
In my experience attending franchise trade shows, there are some key considerations attendees should know before they go, and simple ways they can get the most out of their experience. Here are a few points to consider when evaluating franchise opportunities at IFE or any other franchise conference:
- It’s all about making meaningful connections. Pay attention to how people in the booths interact with you and one another. What kinds of question do they ask you? Are they just pitching you, or do they care whether or not the opportunity is a good fit for you?
- Opportunity is everywhere. It can be overwhelming to scan across the room at IFE as it bustles with entrepreneurial spirit. Never lose sight of the fact that opportunities come in all shapes and sizes. Stay open to new ideas – maybe even some you haven’t considered before.
- Ask yourself, “But why?” To me, this is the most important question you can ask yourself before attending IFE. Simon Sinek said it best when he coined the phrase, “People don’t buy what you do; they buy ‘why’ you do it.” So, why are you attending? What is driving your desire for a change? When an opportunity presents itself, make sure it aligns with your passion and your why. You’ll set yourself up for a successful business model that will attract customers and employees.

Many Primrose Schools Franchise Owners have found that their passion lies in the why of what they do. Our Franchise Owners boast diverse backgrounds; many have never worked in the education industry before – and that’s okay. Their love for what they do serves as a key indicator for their success. Our Franchise Owners are motivated by a much deeper understanding of what constitutes a “high return;” it’s an investment in today’s children that will undoubtedly shape our future workforce. Our Franchise Owners believe that high-quality, early education provides them with the rare opportunity to nurture the foundational skills children need to succeed in school and in life.
We provide Franchise Owners with the tools and resources they need to become strong leaders in their schools and communities. This includes in-depth training prior to opening their schools and ongoing guidance from Primrose business, education and marketing consultants well after schools are open. Our Franchise Owners’ passion for what they do lays the foundation for their success, and the comprehensive training and support we provide helps bring it to life.
