Last month, Primrose President Steve Clemente and I had the pleasure of joining Soyini Coke for an interview for CEO Exclusive, a radio show that highlights emerging trends from CEOs across all industries. We discussed the exciting growth that Primrose Schools is experiencing with our 357 – and counting – franchised schools across the United States. We also spoke at length about successful business leaders and the important role that people and a values-based culture play in the vitality of a purpose-driven brand.
Peter Drucker, acclaimed management consultant and writer, said, “Culture eats strategy for lunch.” I believe culture is the catalyst to achieving and sustaining brand leadership. It engages employees and builds loyalty and advocacy with consumers. Authentic, impactful culture starts from the top of an organization, where leaders consistently emanate the values of the brand and continuously engage employees in a collective commitment to a shared mission. In my nearly three decades with Primrose Schools, I’ve learned time and time again, our Franchise Owners attain the highest levels of service excellence and success – both personally and financially – when they are passionately dedicated to creating a values-based culture among their team and empowering a brighter future for all children in their schools and their communities.
Steve touched on this point from his personal experience: “When I first became CEO at a previous company, I was amazed at how much time I spent talking about vision and culture. It was relentless. You think you’ll talk about strategic planning, but that’s not the case.”
Whether you’re already a leader within your organization or are considering becoming a franchisee, having an authentic and meaningful connection to the values and mission a brand represents and inspiring others to feel the same is at the heart of a culture that drives personal and professional success.
